Loungescape
Made in collaboration with Colly Smith for the Textiles into Furniture class. Our goal was to create a tactile lounging environment where users can interact in a comfortable immersive space. The form was carved and sculpted in foam inspired by rolling hills and topography maps the textures and colors inspired by coral reefs. The LoungeScape is made for a common space in a house, some place where the user feels comfortable to lay and explore ways to interact with the piece.
The upper piece is made from carved and shaped foam that is upholstered with hand tufted elements sewn on, the wood base is purchased and serves as a way to raise the piece from the ground. The tufted pieces where made with rug wool, hand tufted using a punch needle onto stretch loose woven fabric.
